The Stealth of Mediocrity

This would be a variation of the entry I was writing on the first before the whole power outage thing... Weeeeee!
The title is simply a reference to something that I realized was true in my life a few weeks before I decided to write this blog.
Literally, Mediocrity is just the state of being mediocre or average. And, of course, stealth is the ability to avoid detection. So the thing that I realized was that I was an average person. Of course, I didn't want to be an average person. I don't think anyone truly does. The machine of society is geared toward mediocrity, and in order to be more than that you have to go against that vast mechanism. People settle for it out of laziness, fear or whatever reason that they eventually abandon their dreams of greatness and establish the routine of "real life".
No one sees mediocrity coming; they just wake up one day and surprise! You're an average person. You have a job, you barely scrape by, you try to save for retirement, and you have a house, a family and/or pets. Everyone is a little different. But, we are all just a statistic in the history books, and nothing more. The census is taken, we fill it out, and our names are left out of the almanacs. The historians write their books and get their information from the almanacs and various other sources, but only Headliners make their name appear in the books.
Therein lays the second meaning of the title. Not only does mediocrity sneak up on you, but once it has you, it hides you from the future. I didn't grow up wanting to be an average person. I wanted to do something great, something truly memorable. Not because my ego demands it. It just seems that in order for us to evolve as a species and fully realize our potential that great things must be done to move our collective consciousness forward. And I wanted to contribute to that evolution.
So, I rail against my chosen path because ultimately I brought myself to this point and there isn't anyone to blame but me.
I woke up one day and I was stunned by the stealth of mediocrity.

I think that with, a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, and what is, obviously, a clear, lucid, challenging intellect; you are pretty well set up to transcend of things mediocre

Sorry, typing error: I meant to end the above as, 'ALL things mediocre'

You might have an average job and an average life, Frater, but you are also a thinker and a writer. That tells me you are not mediocre. Great blog!
